Science & social studies

What are the benefits?

  • Cognitive Development: Learning science and social studies at a young age can enhance cognitive development by introducing children to concepts such as cause and effect, categorization, and reasoning.
  • Curiosity and Exploration: These subjects encourage preschoolers to explore the world around them, fostering curiosity about natural phenomena, different cultures, and historical events.
  • Critical Thinking: By engaging with scientific experiments and historical stories, children develop critical thinking skills, enabling them to ask questions, make connections, and form logical conclusions.
  • Cultural Awareness: Social studies introduces young learners to diverse cultures, traditions, and societies, promoting empathy and understanding of different ways of life.
  • Appreciation for Nature: Science activities can instill a love for nature and the environment, teaching preschoolers about the importance of conservation and sustainable living.
  • Early Exposure to Concepts: Introducing scientific and social concepts early sets a strong foundation for future learning, making academic subjects less daunting as children progress through school.

Our approach

At Little Panthers Preschool, we place great emphasis on introducing children to Science and Social Studies concepts from an early age. These essential ideas are seamlessly woven into all aspects of our literacy program. Our classroom is equipped with a dedicated Science center where children can actively explore scientific concepts and partake in frequent hands-on experiments. Throughout the year, the children engage in various exciting experiments such as crafting a secure “spaceship” for an egg to land, dissecting owl pellets, nurturing flowers, hatching chicken eggs, and observing the fascinating transformation of caterpillars into butterflies.

In addition to this, we immerse the children in enriching learning activities that foster an understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures. Through storytelling and interactive experiences, such as celebrating Dia de Los Muertos, we create opportunities for the children to learn about different cultures. Geography holds a key position in our curriculum, as we guide the children in creating maps and identifying continents. Moreover, our Social Studies discussions cover important topics like community, government, and voting, which are reinforced through engaging activities. These activities include organizing a class election for a president and even staging a playful trial for the Big Bad Wolf from “The Three Little Pigs.”
